Mai 36 Galerie at Art Basel Miami 2025 - Booth G14
Mai 36 Galerie is pleased to participate in Art Basel Miami Beach 2025 with a presentation bringing together leading voices from the Caribbean art scene alongside key figures from the gallery’s program.
This year, the booth highlights the strength and depth of contemporary Cuban art through works by Flavio Garciandía and Michel Pérez Pollo.
A central figure and mentor for generations of Cuban artists, Flavio Garciandía is widely regarded as one of the most influential voices in post-revolution Cuban art, known for both his conceptual rigor and his critical engagement with painting. Presented alongside him, Michel Pérez Pollo represents a newer generation with a distinctive figurative language that has positioned him as one of Cuba’s most compelling painters today.
The booth will also present works by John Baldessari, Thomas Ruff, Maia Ruth Lee, Poppy Jones, Irma Blank, Raphael Hefti, Koenraad Dedobbeleer, Stephan Balkenhol, Leon Xu, and Gowoon Lee, reflecting the breadth of Mai 36 Galerie’s international program across painting, sculpture, and photography.
A highlight of the presentation is the gallery’s first dedicated Kabinett for HR Giger, realized in close collaboration with the HR Giger Estate.
HR Giger was one of the most visionary artists of the 20th century, creating a unique visual language of dark surrealism that fused the human body with machines, and dreams with their unsettling underside. While widely known for his movie designs for Alien (1979), his influence extends far beyond film, shaping music, fashion, architecture, and contemporary art.
At a time when biotechnology, space exploration, and artificial intelligence are reshaping contemporary culture, Giger’s work carries renewed relevance and urgency. His artistic legacy is receiving increasing institutional recognition worldwide, and this presentation marks the first focused survey of his practice at Art Basel Miami Beach.
