“H.R. Giger and Lucas Dupuy” at BLEICHESTRASSE 3, in Basel, organised in collaboration with KALEIDOSCOPE.
Part of a series curated by KALEIDOSCOPE’s creative director Alessio Ascari, reexamining Giger’s cross-generational legacy and influence, the show offers a rare opportunity to explore the dark beauty and visionary power of his art, this time in dialogue with the work of young British artist Lucas Dupuy.
In Dupuy’s words: ‘H.R. Giger’s work has always deeply resonated with me. There is a particular anxiety that Giger captures. His portrayals of the world and technology feel ever relevant.
Highlights from the exhibition include Necronom / Alien IlI, the hybrid animal-machine creature inspired by Giger’s Necronomicon book, which later influenced the design of Alien (1979); one of his most iconic sculptures, Biomechanoid 2002 (Carmen); and the Passagen portfolio (1971). These works are presented alongside a newly produced series of sonic-adjacent airbrush paintings on raw hessian by Dupuy.
