Ian Anüll – London Blue

Opening Reception: Friday Set 06

Sep 07 - Nov 24

Ian Anüll (*1948) is a collector. As a precise and critical observer, he discovers objects and curious aperçus in newspapers, for example. The meeting of images and text fragments triggers a flash of inspiration in the artist, who then transforms this into a work of art, usually with minimal interventions.

The exhibition brings together works created during a studio stay in London in 2021. In the metropolis, Ian Anüll finds natural and civilized flotsam in newspapers, in garbage on the street and along the banks of the Thames. A blue tile from a tree trough is the starting point for research into the color Prussian Blue. The color connects a diary-like series of works in the format of the tile and other works created in London. The artist interprets found objects, texts and images in an analytical and pleasurable way and combines them into pointed commentaries on current events. Ian Anüll focuses on the powerful, for example Putin or Boris Johnson, social phenomena, beauty obsession, the British government's handling of the pandemic, the excesses of capitalism, religion or the art market.
